TITLES

An asterisk following the location means that the copy held is imperfect.
If the author and/or publisher search index has been used, it is possible to limit search results to Responsibility (only for authors) and/or Attribution.
Responsability allows the user to visualize only the titles in which the author entered for the search is the main (author of the text) or secondary (commentator, translator, etc.).
Attribution allows the user to visualize only the titles with false or uncertain attributions to the author and/or the publisher entered for the search.

The records contained in the data base may be found in different processing stages within the Census project. Attention must therefore be paid to the level indicator:

massimo (high):

records checked by the Census staff and located in the Country

medio (average):

partially checked records however located in the Country

minimo (low):

records from different sources (library cards, indexes, printed catalogues, etc.) that have not been checked, without or with partial locations

Warning: The bibliographic status does not refer to the completeness of the description but to the controls carried out by the Census staff and to the number of locations avaialables. Therefore short-title records without any link with the printers' devices may be found at the highest level and vice versa records containing full description may be found at the lowest level Information on the data base.

Information concerning the publishers provides some biographical data, indications of the places and dates of the activity, addresses and/or sign and the devices used. Bibliographic references are also included, as well as the name forms found in bibliographic sources and those present in the 16th century editions
Warning record characterized by low level does not contain information about publishers.
For other information refer to Information on the data base.

PUBLISHERS' DEVICE

Information about the publisher's devices contains the description of the main figurative elements, the names of the printers who used that device, the dates when they were used (both general and relative to each publisher) and any mottoes that may be present.
Warning: At the present time only a limited amount of bibliographic records (around 9000 out of 50,000 monographs present in the data base) have links to devices because they were not envisaged in the original EDIT 16 rules. Hence the information concerning the publishers who used a given device and the dates when they were used cannot be considered satisfactory. Indeed, such information does not derive from external sources but from the links between devices, editions and publishers present in the data base.
Each device is characterized by one or more standard citations identifying it univocally. The standard citation identifies the figure of the device within pre-established bibliographic sources and consists of an alphabetic character which identifies the repertory and of numerical characters which identify the device within the repertory (number of the figure). E.g. Z534 (Z=Zappella 534=number of the device in the repertory).

DEDICATIONS

In the syntetic list of dedications the first element is a short description of the edition in which the dedication is held (author, title, publication area in a standard form). The short dedication description includes: 1. Agreed title formed by dedicator and dedicatee names (e.g.: Bernardo Tasso a Ferrante Sanseverino), 2. Date, 3. Heading (e.g. Al principe di Salerno suo signore Bernardo Tasso), 4. Incipit, 5. Dedication typology (Dedicatory letter, Textual dedication, Title page dedication).
It is always possible to reduce the search result records by indicating the typology. If you use the search element Dedicator, it is possible to reduce the records by indicating Dedication role (author, publisher, editor, other)
Besides the syntetic list elements, the full dedication record includes: 1. Dedicator, 2. Dedicatee, 3. Place in the signature, 4. Language, 5. Note (complete date, signature etc) 6. Identifier number, 7. Other dedications held in the edition (in the same copy or variant editions).
To access the lists of library collections preserving those editions in which the dedications are refer to Information on the data base
